Josh Johnson Highlights the Reflecting Pool as a Surprising Tourist Draw

The Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial has unexpectedly gained attention due to its algae and discoloration issues. During Tuesday’s episode of the “Daily Show,” comedian Josh Johnson humorously noted its newfound popularity, calling it “the first breakout hit of the summer.”

Johnson remarked with satire, “[…] you wanted to go to Disneyland? Instead, we’re going to see the world’s largest kombucha!” This highlights the peculiar attraction of the algae-filled pool.

He reflected on historical gatherings at the pool, stating, “The last time so many people gathered here was for civil rights, to support Dr. King. Now, people are drawn to see a slimy pool.”

Johnson pointed out the pool’s maintenance challenges, “A shallow pool with a dark bottom in hot weather is tough to keep clean. Social media now seems filled with pool experts weighing in.”

He humorously suggested that former President Trump should have been less vocal about the pool, commenting on how public interest grew after it became a focal point of discussion. “Trump celebrated prematurely, turning the pool into a spectacle as if it were a giant Kool-Aid bucket.”
