Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has successfully completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in the UK. This involves climbing the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales within 24 hours. The endeavor aimed to raise both awareness and funds for a cancer charity.
Kate, as she is commonly known, announced her remission after a cancer diagnosis in March 2024. She had undergone chemotherapy following the diagnosis. In early 2025, she informed the public of her remission.
In a social media post, Kensington Palace shared her motivations for undertaking this challenge. She did it for the physical trial and to explore life beyond her diagnosis. It was also an opportunity for her to give back to the community.
“Through this challenge, I want to raise awareness for the deeper impact of serious illness and the importance of holistic healthcare,”
she stated, emphasizing that the journey beyond treatment needs more than just medicine.
The Three Peaks Challenge requires climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Mount Snowdon, totaling 23 miles of hiking and 10,052 feet of ascent—along with 462 miles of driving between the peaks. Kate supported the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, with which she has personal ties due to her treatment there.
Holistic cancer care involves integrating physical, emotional, spiritual, and social wellbeing with traditional medical treatments like chemotherapy. Kate highlighted the importance of balance in healing, involving effort and acceptance.
Although she completed the challenge alone, Britain’s Mountain Rescue charity provided support along the way. At the end, she was joined by her husband, Prince William, and their children, along with her parents and brother.
Reflecting on her cancer experience, Kate shared that many face a path that tests them in every aspect—physically, emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually. This journey also affects their surroundings, including the quiet moments spent alone.
Following her diagnosis, Kate paused her public duties to focus on treatment. With her remission, she has begun returning to her public life, taking her first overseas trip to northern Italy in May 2026.
