Mt. Olive Pickle Company Withdraws from Fair
The Mt. Olive Pickle Company made the decision to withdraw from the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C. This decision followed the inclusion of a Confederate flag in a video shown at the North Carolina exhibit.
Reasons for the Withdrawal
Mt. Olive Pickle Company expressed pride in its North Carolina heritage and initially agreed to participate in an exhibit that showcased the state’s best offerings. The company, based in Mount Olive, North Carolina, shared in a statement that it was unaware the Confederate flag would be part of the exhibit.
The company emphasized its commitment to values of human dignity, opportunity, and freedom.
Representation Without Attendance
Several states, including North Carolina, were unable to attend the fair due to budget constraints. Nevertheless, North Carolina’s presence at the fair was maintained through contributions from local companies. Nexstar Washington correspondent Gabrielle Caracciolo reported on these developments.
The North Carolina booth continues to feature other local businesses. Operation Helo is participating, offering rapid response disaster relief. Additionally, NASCAR enthusiasts can view a stock car from Richard Childress Racing.
The Great American State Fair will continue its run on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. until July 10, providing diverse exhibits for visitors.
