During the July Fourth weekend, Minions & Monsters edged out Toy Story 5 at the box office. The seventh installment of the Despicable Me series earned $36.4 million according to North American studio estimates. Toy Story 5, which recently surpassed Supergirl, garnered approximately $31 million.
The Minions & Monsters premiered on Wednesday, collecting $61.4 million within its first five days based on studio estimates. Globally, this popular franchise has accumulated $160 million during its opening week. This film, set in Hollywood’s Golden Age, sees the Minions pursuing cinematic glory.
During the United States’ celebration of its 250th birthday, audiences had patriotic offerings such as Young Washington, which secured third place with nearly $21 million. The film chronicles George Washington’s contributions during the French and Indian War. Meanwhile, Supergirl ended in fourth place, generating under $10 million—a significant 74% decline from its initial weekend.
Rentrak reported a year-over-year slide in weekend box office figures by 24%, although this summer shows an increase of nearly 12% from 2025. This growth is partly credited to low-budget Gen-Z favorites like Obsession and Backrooms, securing sixth and seventh positions, as well as Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day.
