Trump’s Support May Affect Spencer Pratt’s Mayoral Race in Los Angeles
Spencer Pratt, a former reality TV star turned politician, is now a contender in the Los Angeles mayoral race. Pratt stands amid the ruins of his Pacific Palisades home, destroyed in the 2025 Palisades fire. His candidacy gains attention as Democrats attempt to associate him with former President Trump.
Two leading Democratic candidates have worked to link Pratt to Trump, who is unpopular in heavily Democratic Los Angeles. Trump’s recent support for Pratt adds fuel to this effort. In a recent statement, Trump expressed his wish for Pratt to perform well, mentioning that he heard Pratt is a dedicated MAGA supporter.
Karen Bass, elected as mayor in 2022, faces reelection. She has been criticized for her lack of presence during the disastrous Los Angeles fires in January 2025. Her main competitors are Pratt and liberal City Council member Nithya Raman. The primary election is scheduled for June 2. If no candidate obtains over 50% of the vote, the top two finishers, irrespective of their political party, will proceed to a fall runoff.
The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, supporting Bass, seems to be trying to promote Pratt by spending $221,000 on an advertisement targeting Republican voters. They aim to enhance Pratt’s profile instead of tarnishing it. Republican numbers are fewer compared to Democrats in Los Angeles, yet their unified support for Pratt could surpass Raman’s votes.
Experts suggest that Bass’s supporters want to avoid a race against another Democrat in the general election. This approach could prevent potential conflicts within the party and improve Bass’s odds of retaining her position.
