Russia’s military launched extensive missile and drone attacks on Kyiv overnight into Monday, resulting in at least seven deaths, according to local authorities. This occurred only hours after Ukraine’s president had warned of a looming large-scale assault.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, reported on Telegram that 24 others sustained injuries. A residential building in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district suffered partial collapse, while several multistory buildings in the Darnytsia district were also damaged. Some residents were feared trapped beneath the debris.
These are residential buildings. Places where people slept and lived their ordinary lives.
The attack, which persisted into early Monday, involved multiple waves of ballistic and cruise missiles along with drones. Residents heard explosions across the city and sought safety in metro stations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously cautioned about the anticipated Russian assault on the city. This attack occurred only a few days after a previous assault led to the deaths of at least 31 individuals in Kyiv.
Zelenskyy reiterated appeals to Western nations for enhanced air defense support. He emphasized the need for more Patriot missiles, noting that insufficient replenishment only encourages Russia to continue its four-year-long conflict.
