Fire Engulfs Brooklyn Bridge During 250th Independence Day Fireworks
During President Donald Trump’s speech at the National Mall, which praised the Brooklyn Bridge as a triumph of architecture, a fire erupted on the bridge Saturday night. This coincided with dual fireworks displays in New York City and Washington, D.C., celebrating America’s 250th Independence Day.
Flames appeared on the Brooklyn Bridge during New York City’s July Fourth fireworks, creating a smoke plume visible to spectators. Firefighters extinguished the blaze without any injuries reported.
Two fire engines were deployed to control the fire on the bridge, which was closed during the fireworks show. The event started earlier than scheduled due to severe weather threats that impacted other East Coast celebrations.
Washington, D.C., saw an evacuation from the National Mall because of an impending storm, coinciding with Trump lauding the Brooklyn Bridge in his Independence Day address.
President Trump noted, “The Brooklyn Bridge, among the finest architectural achievements globally, has the distinction of flying the first flag. Constructed long ago, it remains one of the most beautiful bridges anywhere.” His 37-minute speech was affected by summer storms and paid tribute to American heritage and history.
Trump’s speech highlighted American icons such as Davy Crockett, Wyatt Earp, and Annie Oakley, alongside their descendants, who participated in presenting a historic flag from the Brooklyn Bridge’s early days.
The celebration of America’s indomitable spirit continued despite the initial disruption caused by the fire, marking an impressive display over New York City.
