Connor Michael Murphy, a well-known influencer famous for his ‘looksmaxxing’ content, tragically passed away on July 7 in Thailand. Authorities have classified the cause of death as an apparent drowning. Murphy was 32 years old.
His friends confirmed his death via social media on July 8. Murphy was reported to have exhibited erratic behavior on the day of the incident, according to police reports from the Samut Prakan province, located about 16 miles south of Bangkok.
Authorities received a call on Tuesday afternoon, detailing a situation where a man was behaving unusually at a high-end rental property. As per reports from the Bangkok Post and Thairath, Murphy argued with a security guard before entering a nearby lake. Witnesses shared with Khaosod English that Murphy swam for several minutes but ultimately lost his strength.
The lake, being over 10 meters deep, deterred onlookers from attempting a rescue. Divers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation managed to retrieve Murphy’s body about 20 meters from the shore after searching for approximately 30 minutes.
The 32-year-old influencer, known for his transformation from a skinny teenager to a fitness model, had built a substantial following online.
Police stated there were no visible signs of assault upon initial examination, and a post-mortem analysis is underway at Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital. Full autopsy and toxicology results are still pending.
Murphy resided at the luxury villa with his 22-year-old girlfriend, only identified as Bee. They had a three-month rental agreement, as reported by the Bangkok Post. The property owner assessed the value of the villa at about 22 million baht (approximately $600,000), with a monthly rent of 35,000 baht (slightly over $1,000).
Concerning the rental property, police discovered certain areas splashed with black and yellow paint, including various furniture and appliances. Bee informed officers that the damage occurred overnight while she was asleep in another room. Despite the unusual behavior exhibited by Murphy, Bee claimed she had never seen him use drugs.
Murphy, originally from Texas, had amassed more than 2.7 million followers across platforms like YouTube and Instagram. He frequently shared content on bodybuilding and fitness, aligning himself with the male-dominated looksmaxxing subculture, associated with physical enhancements and fitness.
His social media accounts last featured updates on July 3, where he uploaded a video playing soccer inside a luxury abode. Reports indicate his last YouTube video was posted six days prior to his untimely death.
The investigation into Murphy’s death is ongoing.
