Ilhan Omar Under Investigation for Financial Disclosures
Representative Ilhan Omar, Democrat from Minnesota, is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee due to changes in her financial disclosures. The revision altered the portrayal of her family’s wealth from up to $30 million to less than $100,000.
Minnesota State Representative Kristin Robbins is seeking clarification on Omar’s financial records. Omar’s connection to the MEALS Act has raised concerns due to its link to a $250 million fraud case.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Omar denied any involvement with the Feeding Our Future fraud scandal. She attributed its framework to President Trump’s administration, which signed the MEALS Act into law with bipartisan support.
“Any claim that I had knowledge of this scheme is flat-out false,” Omar stated.
She mentioned sending a letter to the USDA Secretary when the fraud was revealed, asking for explanations and accountability.
The Minnesota House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee has invited Omar to testify. Despite this, a motion to subpoena her for this information was blocked by Democratic committee members.
The final report by the committee criticized Governor Tim Walz’s administration while also highlighting how Omar’s MEALS Act reduced oversight on federal nutrition programs. It allowed for-profit restaurants to participate and introduced ‘grab-and-go’ flexibilities.
Robbins suggested Congress enforce the subpoena for a deeper investigation into Omar’s potential connections with convicted fraudsters and her actions related to the program. Critics argue she promoted a Minneapolis restaurant involved in the scandal and only raised concerns about fraud after it was uncovered.
Earlier communications from a former Omar staffer suggested aligning blame with Trump’s USDA policies. A USDA spokesperson refuted these claims, citing Minnesota’s responsibility to act on available fraud warnings and evidence.
