Trump Administration Allegedly Gave Iran Access to Detainee Information

In a sworn declaration, a lawyer claims an Iranian official received regular reports on Iranian detainees from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for several months. This information surfaced as part of a federal lawsuit filed on Wednesday.

According to the documents, the Trump administration allegedly aimed to deport all Iranians in U.S. immigration detention. This occurred between September 2025 and January 2026, shortly before the U.S. initiated military action against Iran in February 2026.

The lawsuit, filed in Federal District Court in Washington, details the extent of contacts that led to the deportation of over 100 Iranians to Tehran. These actions reportedly took place just before hostilities between the two nations began.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security denied the claims without addressing the specifics detailed in these filings. Meanwhile, the State Department has yet to comment on the matter.

The Iranian American Legal Defense Fund, a civil rights organization, presented these allegations to support their claim that the Trump administration illegally shared confidential information with Iran’s government. This allegedly put multiple Iranians at risk of persecution.

One significant testimony from Cyrus Mehri, a board member and lawyer for the legal defense fund, described an interaction with an unnamed Iranian official. This official initially contacted Mehri and discussed ongoing communications with ICE regarding the deportation of Iranian detainees. Despite Mehri informing him about being on “opposite sides” of the matter, the official shared details of the discussions.

The Iranian official asserted that the Trump administration moved towards expelling all detained Iranians in the U.S. The State Department was said to have initially provided personal details about individuals fleeing from Iran’s regime.
