Kathryn Ruemmler Faces House Oversight Committee Scrutiny Over Epstein Relationship

Former Obama White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler appeared before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday. The focus was her long-term relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. Ruemmler, who recently resigned from her role at Goldman Sachs, participated in a closed-door interview that is part of a broader investigation into Epstein and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.

Ruemmler claimed her interactions with Epstein were limited. However, both Democrats and Republicans dismissed this assertion. Emails presented during the interview suggested a friendly relationship between Ruemmler and Epstein. Kathryn attempted to distance herself from Epstein, but the emails tell a different story, Rep. Suhas Subramanyam stated.

Emails revealed their association stretched from 2014, when Ruemmler was a partner at Latham & Watkins, to 2019. Epstein committed suicide in 2019, awaiting trial for federal sex trafficking charges.

Rep. James Comer expressed concern over Ruemmler’s involvement with Epstein, saying she seemed to work hard to rehabilitate Epstein’s image post-conviction. Despite this, Ruemmler denies any wrongdoing or awareness of Epstein’s illegal activities.

The interview highlighted ongoing questions about why Ruemmler maintained a personal relationship with Epstein after his conviction. Rep. Robert Garcia questioned Ruemmler’s truthfulness regarding her testimonies to the committee.
