A historic piece of Hollywood is now available for purchase. Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren and her husband, renowned director Taylor Hackford, have put their long-time Hollywood Hills estate on the market, priced at $12 million. This offers potential buyers a unique opportunity to own a property rich with over a century of entertainment history.
The couple first listed the estate in 2021 with an asking price of $18.5 million.
The sprawling compound, covering 6.5 acres, is far more than a luxury residence. It is a surviving piece of Old Hollywood. The approximately 10,199-square-foot home boasts an outdoor dining patio, a swimming pool, landscaped grounds, and stunning views of the city skyline.
Built in 1911 for silent film star Dustin Farnum, the estate has been owned by several notable figures, including film producer and journalist Mark Hellinger and actress-producer Gail Patrick, known for executive producing the original “Perry Mason” series.
The interiors, staged by Vesta Home, strike a balance between nostalgia and modern luxury. The home honors its cinematic past with deep silk rugs, rich green tones, warm wood accents, vintage furnishings, and oversized black-and-white Hollywood photographs, creating glamorous yet inviting spaces.
A wood-paneled library features built-in bookshelves, a fireplace, and contemporary furniture. One of the bathrooms includes a soaking tub, a glass-block shower enclosure, and a dual-sink vanity.
The private compound features a grand main residence, a separate three-bedroom guesthouse, an office and apartment above the garage, a swimming pool, expansive terraces, and refreshed landscaping with mature trees showcasing panoramic views of the Hollywood Hills.
Listing agent Jonas Heller stated, “This is a truly rare opportunity to acquire one of the Hollywood Hills’ most historically significant and private estates. Properties of this caliber, with such a rich legacy and expansive acreage, seldom become available.”
The property is exclusively listed by Jonas Heller and Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency.
Helen Mirren and Taylor Hackford have been married since 1997. Hackford previously served as president of the Directors Guild of America. Mirren is known for her roles in “The Queen,” “1923,” “MobLand,” and more.
In discussing her co-stars Pierce Brosnan and Harrison Ford, Mirren shared her admiration for their professional behavior on set and their passion for acting. She praised their positive attitudes and love for their craft, noting that many older actors become grumpy over time, contrasting with the upbeat natures of Brosnan and Ford.
Helen Mirren has received five Emmy Awards, an Academy Award, a Tony Award, four BAFTAs, and three Golden Globes during her extensive career in entertainment.
