Airman Dies in Equipment Accident
A tragic incident has occurred at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, where a 23-year-old airman from North Carolina has died due to an equipment accident. The individual was identified as Airman 1st Class Cedric Eneluna, part of the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron’s Pavements and Equipment Flight.
According to officials, Eneluna’s unit is crucial for maintaining essential infrastructure, including roads and airfields, which support the base’s operations under the U.S. Space Force. These operations involve satellite launches into polar orbits and intercontinental ballistic missile tests.
An official statement from Vandenberg Space Force Base conveyed the profound sadness felt by the community:
“It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of Airman 1st Class Cedric Eneluna, a member of the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron.”
The statement highlighted Eneluna’s dedication, humility, and unwavering commitment to his team and mission. His passing is a loss felt deeply across the Vandenberg family.
Eneluna’s cause of death is pending determination by the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Office. In response to the incident, Vandenberg units are aiding a Safety Investigation Board’s review.
Background of Airman Eneluna
Originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina, Eneluna also spent part of his childhood in the Philippines. He joined the military in early March 2024 and arrived at Vandenberg in August for his first assignment.
As a member of the “Dirt Boyz” team, Eneluna specialized in pavement and heavy equipment. His positive attitude and work ethic earned him respect and admiration among peers.
U.S. Space Force Col. James T. Horne III, commander of Space Launch Delta 30, commended Eneluna’s character and dedication:
“He made a lasting impression on his teammates through his character, dedication, and genuine care for others.”
