They defeated the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 in the first game of Wednesday’s split doubleheader.

Jarren Duran played a pivotal role, contributing a two-run triple and a sacrifice fly. Caleb Durbin, who hit a game-winning homer in their previous win, added a two-run single. Ceddanne Rafaela further solidified Boston’s lead with a solo home run, in a game that was rescheduled following Tuesday’s rainout.

For Baltimore, Christian Encarnacion-Strand hit a solo homer, marking his second in as many games.

Red Sox rookie pitcher Jake Bennett improved his record to 6-3, delivering 5 2/3 innings and allowing three runs on nine hits. He endured a line drive off his stomach but continued pitching after being checked by the team’s staff.

Aroldis Chapman preserved the win, securing his 23rd save of the season and tying Dennis Eckersley for ninth on the all-time career saves list, with 390.

Boston established an early 4-0 lead against Orioles’ starting pitcher Dean Kremer. Durbin and Duran drove in runs, setting the tone for the game.

Encarnacion-Strand’s homer reduced the deficit in the fourth inning, but Rafaela’s home run over the Green Monster restored Boston’s advantage.

Kremer pitched six innings, giving up six runs during his outing.

In the nightcap, the Orioles are scheduled to start right-hander Kyle Bradish, while the Red Sox will counter with left-hander Eduardo Rivera.
