New Jersey Voter Registration Error and Its Implications

In an unexpected admission, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill disclosed a significant error: 6,600 noncitizens were mistakenly registered to vote in the state. Of these, approximately 400 individuals participated in casting ballots. This mistake, originating from the previous administration led by Phil Murphy, occurred despite legal safeguards.

Governor Sherrill’s willingness to address her predecessor’s oversight is commendable. However, those who voted illegally should face legal action to uphold electoral laws. Such measures are necessary to maintain public confidence in the election process.
