Senior Pentagon Official’s Departure from Navy Announced

Brandon Newsom, a senior Pentagon official, is no longer with the Department of the Navy. Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao shared this news on Sunday, stating, “The individual is no longer employed by the Department of the Navy.” The circumstances of Newsom’s departure remain unspecified, whether it was through dismissal, resignation, or another means.

Newsom’s administrative leave came after an investigation into hidden-camera footage released by James O’Keefe, a conservative activist. The footage allegedly captured Newsom making critical remarks about President Donald Trump and discussing reversing certain administration policies. In the video, Newsom expressed his intention to remain at the Pentagon to “undo whatever’s been done” by Trump’s administration. He mentioned policies conflicting with his values, such as religious services at the Pentagon and changes affecting federal employees.

Newsom also reportedly described Trump as “a textbook narcissist” and criticized the conflict with Iran, calling it “completely stupid” and “driven by one man’s ego.” Following the release of the footage, Acting Secretary Hung Cao placed Newsom on leave, pending a review.

Cao emphasized that the Navy takes such conduct seriously. “Statements and apparent intent to undermine the policies and direction set by our elected leaders are inappropriate and incompatible with the standards expected of Department personnel,” Cao stated.
