Upcoming Entertainment Releases for the Week
This week, several new films, music albums, series, and games are set to excite audiences. Here’s what to expect:
New Movies to Stream (July 27-August 2)
The Devil Wears Prada 2: Premiering on Wednesday, July 29 on Hulu and Disney+, the sequel revisits the high-fashion world of Runway Magazine. Original cast members Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt return. The film has already seen box office success, grossing $688 million worldwide. In the new storyline, Hathaway’s character, Andy, returns to Runway to avert its media downfall.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie: After crossing $1 billion in cinemas, this animated film based on the popular game comes to Peacock on July 30. Lindsey Bahr from AP notes that, while entertaining, the film emphasizes merchandising over storytelling.
The Drama: Available July 31 on HBO Max, Kristoffer Borgli’s film stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as an engaged couple facing relationship challenges. Critic Mark Kennedy points out that the film doesn’t fully utilize its star power or plot premise.
New Music to Stream (July 27-August 2)
Ariana Grande’s ‘Petal’: Launching Friday, Grande’s album follows her successful role in “Wicked.” The lead single suggests a blend of synths and pop melodies, produced with the help of Max Martin.
Lollapalooza: The festival returns to Grant Park, Chicago from Thursday through Sunday. The lineup includes Lorde, Charli XCX, and The Smashing Pumpkins. If you’re not attending in person, Hulu and Disney+ offer live streaming.
Shaboozey’s ‘The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales’: This concept album, out Friday, features artists like Kehlani and Teyana Taylor. Known for his unique country-rap style, Shaboozey continues to challenge musical boundaries.
Five Finger Death Punch’s ‘Legacy’: Releasing on Friday, the hard rock band reflects on their career and legacy with this new album, marking two decades together.
New Series to Stream (July 27-August 2)
Diarra from Detroit: Paramount+ debuts Season 2 of this comedy on Wednesday, July 29. The season follows Diarra Kilpatrick’s character as she navigates newfound chaos and mystery.
House of Stassi: Former “Vanderpump Rules” star Stassi Schroeder leads her own reality series on Hulu, releasing Thursday, July 30. It highlights her personal and professional journey.
Fightland: Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s crime drama premieres on Starz on Friday, July 31. The series follows Duke, a former boxing champion, as he seeks vengeance after a stint in prison.
