Seattle Mass Shooting Involves Three Suspects, Investigation Continues

Police now suspect that three individuals may have been involved in a mass shooting at Seattle Center, leaving three dead and four wounded. A 15-year-old has been arrested in connection with the incident. According to documents from juvenile court in Seattle, one of the dead suspects is believed to have been a shooter.

Initially, authorities thought two gunmen were involved. However, recent documents suggest that the 15-year-old and a deceased acquaintance might have had a gunfight with at least one additional unknown suspect. A manhunt is ongoing for this suspect.

Seattle Police have urged residents to avoid the area.

The arrested teenager is in juvenile detention on firearms violations and first-degree assault. Although supposed to appear in court, the teen waived this hearing. No homicide charges have been filed against him yet.

Mayor Katie Wilson stated, “We believe this teenager opened fire in the crowd, but details are still under investigation.” Chief of Police Shon Barnes noted that gunfire erupted outside the Seattle Center Armory, catching bystanders in the crossfire. The conflict seems to have involved small groups at odds with each other.

The deceased include a 19-year-old man and a 44-year-old man, who succumbed to their injuries despite efforts from first responders. A 56-year-old woman was critically injured and later passed away at the hospital. The injuries affected others, including a 2-year-old boy and adults aged 23, 39, and 40, whose conditions range from minor injuries to satisfactory post-treatment.

Police are also checking if a 27-year-old man who self-transported to a hospital was a victim, as his involvement remains unconfirmed. Harborview Medical Center spokesperson Susan Gregg mentioned injuries involved arms, abdomen, and legs. Emergency crews arrived soon after 6 p.m. during the Bite of Seattle festival.

Mayor Wilson called this an “act of horrific violence,” stating the event aimed to celebrate culture and joy. She added, “No one should fear being shot at a gathering with friends or exploring their city.” The mayor highlighted priorities such as supporting affected families, providing care for the injured, and ensuring public information is clear.

Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson has received briefings and deployed State Patrol SWAT officers to support local police. His thoughts are with the victims and responders ensuring community safety.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal expressed horror at the violence, offering condolences to those affected. She praised officers and medical professionals working to protect and heal the community. As the community grieves, discussions on broader impacts of gun violence continue.

Several people died at the scene, as reported by KCPQ.

King County Executive Girmay Zahilay also expressed sorrow, indicating the “Bite” has been a cherished Seattle tradition. The impact of violence on such an event is deeply upsetting.

Witness accounts describe chaotic scenes during the shooting. Kayla Carris, 22, recounted, “Everyone was just throwing stuff and running.” Todd Behrends, 59, heard multiple shots and observed people fleeing amid panic, with some injured in the scramble.
