President Trump Comments on Conflict with Iran

President Donald Trump addressed the ongoing conflict with Iran on Friday, indicating that Americans should brace for continued fighting. He believes Tehran’s capability to retaliate will gradually diminish due to U.S. strikes. Trump expressed this sentiment during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David.

“Yeah, sure, I think so. I’d be foolish to say no. You know, you always have to keep your guard up,” said Trump when asked about the potential duration of the attacks.

Although Trump is optimistic that U.S. efforts might weaken Iran, he acknowledged the conflict could extend for quite some time. Despite earlier claims that Iran’s military capabilities had been severely impacted, he noted that Iran still possesses some, albeit limited, military ability.

Earlier claims from the White House asserted the objectives of Operation Epic Fury, such as dismantling Iran’s naval power and missile and drone capabilities, had been met. Nevertheless, Iran continues to launch attacks on U.S. bases and poses threats to commercial shipping.

Challenges Amid Negotiations

Trump admitted his dwindling faith in reaching an agreement with Iran, accusing Tehran of dishonesty in its dealings with the U.S.

“They do lie, and they do misrepresent,” Trump said. “All they do is make me angry.”

The ongoing conflict poses significant political pressure on Trump, especially as the November midterm elections approach. The exchange comes after recent U.S. strikes targeting Iranian military sites in retaliation for missile attacks. U.S. Central Command confirmed the strikes hit numerous targets including command centers and coastal defenses.

Hostilities reignited in July, contributing to the faltering negotiations aimed at restoring peace and commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Though some nations, such as Oman and Qatar, have attempted to mediate a deal, issues like control of the waterway, sanctions, and Iran’s nuclear activities have complicated efforts.
