Wisconsin Gubernatorial Race: Controversies and Candidates
Francesca Hong, expected to be the Democratic nominee for governor in Wisconsin, is attracting attention due to her views and political stance. She once expressed her belief that Americans should stop celebrating Thanksgiving. In a deleted post on X, Hong said, “Cancel Thanksgiving. Should have done this in 1621.” She suggested that the holiday represents colonialism and a historical event that led to the spread of smallpox, which severely affected indigenous populations.

The post from November 2020 offers insight into Hong’s progressive ideology. As she gains prominence in the gubernatorial race, her comments have become a point of controversy and mockery online.
Critics have highlighted Hong’s use of the term ‘folx,’ a word intended to be inclusive of LGBTQ+ and other marginalized groups. Conservative podcaster Stephen Miller was among those questioning her language on social media.
Currently a frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, Hong is unapologetic about her socialist record, advocating for policies that support “working-class people.” Her platform includes race-based grants, publicly funded grocery stores, and a state-run bank. Hong aligns with other progressive figures like New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Momentum is building for Hong as the primary nears. With less than two weeks until voting, she looks likely to secure the Democratic nomination.
Another incident drawing Hong into the spotlight involves a resurfaced 2019 post. In this post, she detailed an anxiety attack at Culver’s due to feeling overwhelmed by “old white people” and shared her experience in a candid manner, which led to more criticism.

Former White House Principal Deputy Communications Director Alex Pfeiffer expressed concern over her remarks, questioning the decision to run her statewide.
The race took a turn when Mandela Barnes, the former lieutenant governor, exited the contest. Barnes was favored due to his connection with outgoing Governor Tony Evers and his name recognition. His withdrawal comes amid allegations of workplace misconduct under investigation by The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
With Barnes out, Hong and Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley now stand as primary contenders. Hong has secured endorsements from prominent progressives, including Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Ro Khanna. She raised nearly $709,000 by late June, while Crowley amassed $250,000.
Governor Evers endorsed Crowley, citing his experience.
The primary is slated for August 11. Fox News Digital sought comment from Hong’s campaign.
