Indiana Fever Secure Fifth Consecutive Victory Over Portland Fire

The Indiana Fever triumphed over the Portland Fire with a score of 112-98, marking their fifth consecutive win on Friday night in Portland, Oregon. Caitlin Clark was a standout performer, achieving her fourth career triple-double with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Kelsey Mitchell matched her contribution with 26 points, further solidifying the Fever’s dominance.

This victory extends the Fever’s impressive run, as they have now won nine of their last 11 games and consistently scored over 100 points in five consecutive matches. Bridget Carleton led the effort for the Fire with 26 points, but the team faced their fourth consecutive loss.

The Fever pulled ahead in the third quarter, establishing an 18-point lead by the end of the quarter, 90-72. Makayla Timpson contributed with a layup early in the fourth, increasing the gap to 10 points. Despite efforts from Portland, including a 3-pointer by Carleton that narrowed the score to 98-88, the Fever maintained control. Clark’s successful free throws near the end ensured the Fever’s victory at 110-96.

Before the game, a rally took place outside the Moda Center in support of Sophie Cunningham’s stance against transgender athletes in women’s sports. A similar event preceded the Fever’s previous win against the Seattle Storm. Cunningham faced boos from the crowd upon entering the game but responded by scoring a 3-pointer that advanced the Fever’s lead.

The match was a sellout, setting a record with 19,959 attendees for the Portland Fire. In the first half, Megan DiLeo’s 3-pointer briefly gave the Fire a 36-30 advantage, but the Fever regained control, leading 56-47 by halftime. Clark had already amassed 17 points by then.

Looking forward, the Fever will face Minnesota on Sunday, while the Fire are set to host Los Angeles.
