Deadly Explosion at Moscow Restaurant

An explosion at a central Moscow restaurant resulted in three fatalities on Saturday, according to reports. Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee identified a homemade explosive device as the cause.

The victims included a woman who tried to bring the device into the restaurant, along with a security guard and a customer. At least 21 others sustained injuries in the blast, which took place around 8 p.m. on the ground floor terrace of a restaurant at Kudrinskaya Square. This location features seven skyscrapers from the Stalin era.

The explosion reportedly occurred at the Balzi Rossi Italian restaurant. The venue was closed for a private event on that day, according to its website. Photos show law enforcement and emergency response teams present at the scene.

Law enforcement was heavily armed while securing the site. This incident highlights continuing security concerns in the city.
