Trump’s Warning to Iran and Ongoing Negotiations

President Donald Trump stressed the potential for the U.S. to strike Iran “really hard” if talks between Washington and Tehran falter. He emphasized that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon remains a priority. “They understand that,” Trump remarked, noting the inevitability of action if diplomacy is unsuccessful.

In a recent interview, Trump reiterated his stance on military action as a fallback should negotiations fail. He reflected on the magnitude of a planned military response, labeling it as possibly the largest since World War II, which was paused following requests from Tehran and other Middle Eastern nations. They sought additional time for dialogue focusing on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Trump expressed optimism about reaching a deal to reopen the strategic strait and control Iran’s nuclear plans. He described the negotiations as “imminent,” despite Iranian officials publicly denying direct contacts with the U.S., instead highlighting that discussions occur via mediators in Oman. Reports indicate significant progress in these talks, although final agreements remain in progress.

During further discussions, Trump acknowledged Iran’s reluctance to confirm ongoing negotiations directly. “They don’t like to admit that,” he commented, but maintained that actions matter more than words. He suggested an eagerness from Iran to strike a deal, stating, “If they don’t make a deal, it’s going to be too bad.”

Pressed about when the U.S. might consider ending talks if resolutions continue to stall, Trump indicated a willingness to continue diplomatic efforts without haste. He criticized former administrations for not solving the issues earlier, including the nuclear pact orchestrated during Barack Obama’s presidency. “Obama was taken to the cleaners,” Trump asserted.

This effort to finalise negotiations is characterized by Trump as Iran’s “last chance” to prevent heightened U.S. military actions. He underscored that a primary focus lies in addressing the Strait of Hormuz situation prior to dealing with nuclear program specifics.
