Soon, problems became evident. The liner materials began to peel and bubble, algae flourished, and the water turned green, inflating repair expenses to over $16 million. In June, Trump grew anxious over finishing the renovation for the 250th July 4 celebration. Meanwhile, former Olympian David Hearn was arrested on June 19 for allegedly vandalizing the pool. Despite accusations, vivid descriptions of these actions involving a so-called ‘350-foot gash’ lacked photographic or any supporting evidence. Near the pool, a fence was erected, and repairs continued discretely.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro echoed Trump’s incendiary remarks, portraying Hearn’s actions negatively. Pirro, known as a controversial figure, often ignores ethical standards. In her previous role as Westchester County district attorney, Pirro made dubious remarks about defendants and judges while promoting herself as a people’s avenger. Her association with Trump is notable, as Trump considers her a trusted friend.

Moving to media, Pirro worked with Fox News for 14 years, making contentious claims, including opinions on Muslim communities and conspiracy theories regarding the 2020 election outcome. Her remarks were central to a defamation lawsuit settled for $787 million. Within Fox, executives criticized Pirro as reckless, fueling complaints over her conduct by federal judges and disciplinary boards. Her controversial press conference on July 2 condemned Hearn’s actions, describing them as a grave offense.

Two weeks later, Pirro requested dismissal of charges, attributing damage to poor contractor work rather than vandalism. Her motion cited reports from the Department of the Interior pointing to shortcuts, low-quality materials, and flawed installation. Accompanying visuals showed the underlying causes. Pirro shifted blame to the Department for withholding vital information. Despite these revelations, the media hasn’t pursued further inquiry into Pirro’s handling of the dismissal. Did her office thoroughly investigate to validate claims against Hearn? Were all pertinent materials from the Department of the Interior obtained as evidence?

Trump criticized Pirro’s move, accusing her of ‘choking’ and ‘folding.’ Whether dealing with controversial policies or economic missteps, Trump consistently refuses to acknowledge mistakes. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz humorously summed up the Reflecting Pool affair, encapsulating Trump’s presidency as identifying problems, failing to resolve them, yet claiming success.
