Salmonella Outbreak From Jalapeños Affects 27 States
An expanding salmonella outbreak linked to jalapeños has reached 27 states. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has provided this update.
The jalapeños, distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors in California and imported from Mexico, were served in Chipotle, Qdoba, and other restaurants. The CDC reported that at least 36 people have been hospitalized. No deaths have occurred.
On Tuesday, Chipotle removed jalapeños from its menu, stating it was ‘out of an abundance of caution.’ Qdoba did the same on Wednesday, ensuring jalapeños are removed from all their locations.
According to the CDC, neither restaurant poses a current threat as the problematic jalapeños are no longer in service.
