Missouri Neighbor Dispute Escalates to Fatal Shooting

Mothers and Daughter Shot in Dispute

A tragic incident unfolded in House Springs, Missouri, where a mother and her teenage daughter were fatally shot by their neighbor. The confrontation stemmed from a complaint about a dispute. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Robert Winkelman, 73, approached 38-year-old Jessica Lashly at her home on July 25 to discuss activities happening there. During this interaction, Winkelman shot Lashly in the head.

Jessica Lashly’s 17-year-old daughter, Jersey Greer, attempted to aid her mother. Winkelman then shot her in the head as well. A third person present was pursued by Winkelman but managed to avoid being shot. Both Lashly and Greer succumbed to their injuries in the hospital days later.

Perpetrator’s Actions and Background

When law enforcement arrived at Winkelman’s residence to address the violence, Winkelman took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the hospital on August 2. Authorities noted he would have been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action if he had survived.

Investigators disclosed that Winkelman had a history of grievances regarding noise and activities at Lashly’s home, which possibly contributed to his actions. The sheriff’s office categorized the fatal encounter as a ‘dispute between neighbors.’

Family Impact and Community Reactions

Justice Greer, Jersey’s twin sister, described Jersey as an immensely supportive and humorous individual. “She could make anybody laugh,” Justice shared. “She was always the first to uplift others.” Jersey’s final act was an attempt to save her mother, highlighting her bravery, Justice reflected.

Jessica Lashly, known as a single mother devoted to her daughters, was remembered by Justice as their cornerstone. “It’s going to be really hard because that’s all I’m used to,” she said about moving forward without her family.

Abby Feldmann, the Greer twins’ lacrosse coach, recalled Jersey’s remarkable ability to positively influence those around her. “She could change your whole perspective on life,” Feldmann reflected, emphasizing the impact Jersey had on her community.
