On Saturday evening, gunfire was reported near the White House. The event was acknowledged by Kash Patel, the director of the F.B.I., through social media.
Patel stated that the F.B.I. was present at the scene to support the Secret Service in responding to the shooting incident.
Allison Robbert, a photographer for The New York Times, was at the scene and reported hearing approximately 20 to 30 gunshots from the north lawn.
Journalists heard it from outside the press room and were ushered inside by Secret Service,she conveyed through a text message.
