Yankees Triumph Over Braves in Extra-Inning Victory
The New York Yankees clinched a dramatic victory over the Atlanta Braves, winning 3-2 in extra innings. The game, which extended into the night due to a rain delay, saw the Yankees make a thrilling comeback.

The Braves had an eight-game winning streak snapped. They held a 2-0 lead after home runs by Austin Riley in the eighth and Matt Olson in the ninth. However, the Yankees rallied late. Austin Wells, struggling at the plate, doubled home a run against Braves closer Raisel Iglesias.
In a pivotal play, Amed Rosario earned a walk, and Rice followed with a single off a 1-0 changeup. The bases were loaded when Heliot Ramos was hit by a pitch before pitcher Dylan Dodd retired Luis García Jr. to force extra innings.
Rookie George Lombard Jr. initiated the extra-inning rally with an infield single. He advanced to third due to a throwing error by Iglesias. David Bednar contributed by pitching a scoreless 10th, helped by Lombard’s skilled throw and García’s impressive catch.
The decisive moment came when rookie Spencer Jones was intentionally walked. Lombard drew a walk from Tyler Kinley, loading the bases. García, serving as the automatic runner, scored on McMahon’s sacrifice fly, ending the game.
New York’s pitching remained solid, with Max Fried delivering 6 1/3 scoreless innings against his former team. Fried joined the Yankees last December on a lucrative contract. Tyler Mahle matched Fried’s effort with six shutout innings in his Braves debut.
The game started after a rain delay of one hour and 55 minutes. The Yankees have seen their pitchers allow one run or less in eight of the last ten games.
Before last night’s meeting, Fried spent eight seasons with the Braves but joined the Yankees as a free agent with a $218 million contract.
