Journalists conducted in-depth research into the GI Bill fraud involving over $300 million. Their work included analyzing databases, examining thousands of documents, and visiting three states to uncover these issues.

Initial Investigations
Two years ago, Lisa Rein, a former reporter for The Washington Post, and I began receiving tips about fraud affecting the GI Bill program. These tips highlighted significant issues within for-profit trade schools. Veterans lodged numerous complaints, but sources indicated that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) was not addressing the problem effectively.
