Ohio Golfer’s Close Call with Lightning Captured on Video

An Ohio golfer described himself as “very lucky and blessed” after an unexpected encounter with a storm on the golf course last week. While attempting to document their efforts to free a golf cart that seemed stuck, he experienced a lightning strike.

The video begins with him laughing as his companions struggle to push the golf cart up a slight grassy slope. Their efforts fail as the cart rolls backward, before lightning strikes, altering the course of events.

In the video, the golfer made a few critical mistakes. He remained on the golf course as the storm approached, did not assist with the golf cart, and stood under a tree with an umbrella, which proved to be an unsafe location. A flash of light accompanied by a loud bang marks the video’s abrupt end.

Meteorologist Matt Devitt reported that the golfer was hit on the arm by lightning. Despite this, the golfer sustained only non-life-threatening injuries and is recovering.

The incident occurred on a Friday at a golf course in Cincinnati, Ohio. The golfer expressed to Devitt a sense of being “unbelievably lucky” after the incident. Devitt emphasized a key safety tip: “When thunder roars, go indoors!”
