Kansas Child Dies in Tragic Dryer Electrocution Incident

Kansas officials have reported the death of a 4-year-old in a tragic accident involving a clothes dryer. The incident occurred last Thursday in Savonburg, Kansas, as the child was playing inside a home, according to a statement from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO).

Authorities stated that the child received an electrical shock from a 220-volt dryer. The parents immediately took their unconscious child to a local hospital at approximately 9:30 p.m. Unfortunately, the child was pronounced dead upon arrival, said officials.

“The Sheriff’s Office extends our heartfelt condolences to the family members and all those affected by this tragedy, including the Allen County dispatchers, first responders, and hospital personnel,” the ACSO noted in their statement.

The ACSO also mentioned that no foul play is suspected, and they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event.

A 220-volt electrical current poses serious risks, capable of causing significant injury or even death, including cardiac arrest.

While clothes dryers are often linked to home fire incidents due to lint buildup in exhaust ducts or overheating, fatalities involving electrical accidents with laundry appliances remain rare. A previous incident involving a 10-year-old boy who died inside a dryer in a Houston-area apartment complex in 2018 was similarly ruled accidental, following an investigation that uncovered no signs of injury or foul play.
