Rescuers Save Baby from Rubble After Colombia Earthquake

Brian Osorio Zuluaga shared videos highlighting the rescue on his social media platform. The footage revealed a rescue team working tirelessly amidst the debris. At one point, a voice from under the rubble responded to the rescuers’ inquiry with, “I’m with a baby.” Moments later, the cries of a child were heard.

In the subsequent clip, a man held the crying baby with blood-stained arms, his lower body still trapped. Five men managed to carefully extract the infant, calling for medical assistance and cheering once the child was safe. Efforts to free the man holding the baby continued afterward.

Zuluaga, who assisted on the scene, wrote about the importance of readiness in such situations. His post emphasized unity and the impact of helping hands during emergencies, stating that “differences don’t matter, what matters is helping.” The condition of both the rescued baby and the man remained unknown.

Meanwhile, rescue teams faced a race against time to locate more survivors. President Abelardo de la Espriella, newly in office, announced the earthquake’s death toll had reached 181 with 2,595 injured. Unofficial estimates noted around 4,000 individuals as missing.

International aid began streaming in to support Colombia. The United States pledged over $15 million, while Mexico’s president organized health supplies and personnel. Additionally, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele announced his contribution of 100 tons of aid via two aircraft.

“Our prayers are with the families of the victims, the wounded, and all the Colombian people,” President Bukele conveyed on social media.
