Authorities in New Jersey are investigating a fatal stabbing incident that occurred in Somerville. The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office reported that 46-year-old Alyne Espinal was found dead with multiple stab wounds to her chest, neck, and thigh in her home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband, Ignacio Espinal, aged 55, was arrested in connection with the incident. He was taken into custody in West New York, New Jersey, and now faces first-degree murder charges related to his wife’s death. Additional charges include third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and third-degree hindering.
Police responded to a 911 call placed on Thursday at approximately 7:30 p.m., expressing concerns for a woman’s welfare on Brookside Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered Alyne Espinal deceased inside an apartment, suffering from multiple stab wounds.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office emphasized that the investigation is in the preliminary stages and remains active. Investigators are conducting interviews, examining both physical and electronic records, and analyzing forensic evidence to gather comprehensive insights into the case.
