An entire generation has grown up with the Toy Story series. Toy Story 5, which premiered in June, has become a major hit at the international box office and received critical acclaim. For fans eager to see what didn’t make the final cut, the wait is nearly over.
The movie will be available digitally on August 18, with a release on 4K UHD/Blu-ray disc scheduled for September 22. Among the bonus features, Newsweek offers an exclusive look at a deleted scene. In this scene, a Buzz Lightyear explores a group of ‘humanoids’ on a camping trip. This is only one of the many extras included in the upcoming release.
Additional features will include a behind-the-scenes view of the film’s production and a featurette about new cast members such as Conan O’Brien and Greta Lee. Fans can also expect a gag reel, a popular extra for many Pixar films. Digital-only releases will feature Taylor Swift’s music video for her song, ‘I Knew It, I Knew You.’
On September 22, a limited edition 4K SteelBook will be available. This version is as much a display piece as it is a movie copy. Dedicated Disney fans understand that having these discs on display is a point of pride, similar to owning branded clothing or toys.
The release timing aligns with the beginning of awards season. Toy Story 5 has strong chances of being nominated in several categories. There’s particular buzz around Best Original Song for Swift and potentially Best Picture. Until then, fans have the opportunity to enjoy the animation and story of a franchise that’s perfected the art of emotional storytelling.
