More than 25 years after its debut at Universal Orlando, the Lost Continent is entering a phased closure at Islands of Adventure. Demolition has started on the site. News footage shows an excavator amid rubble, reflecting multiple reports.
In the coming months, venues and experiences within Lost Continent will permanently close in phases to make way for a new themed area,a Universal Orlando spokesperson stated.
The Mythos Restaurant is scheduled to close in 2027 as part of this transition.
Starting in 1999, the Lost Continent contributed to the park’s identity with its mythological architecture and storytelling based on ancient legends. It created an atmospheric experience by blending fantasy, cutting-edge effects, and live shows.
This area housed beloved attractions like the Dueling Dragons roller coasters, renamed Dragon Challenge with the introduction of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. These rides were known for their complex layouts and close-call designs.
Poseidon’s Fury was another key attraction, featuring water tunnel effects, fire, and live actors. However, for 15 years, Universal gradually altered the land.
In 2010, the Dueling Dragons rides were rebranded as part of the Harry Potter expansion. This attraction closed in 2017, replaced by Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, now a major hit at the park.
The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad ended in 2018, and Poseidon’s Fury closed in 2023. Mythos Restaurant is expected to operate until 2027 under Universal’s phased approach.
Universal Orlando continues to evolve. New offerings will replace existing features, from themed areas to new dining experiences.
The Horror Make-Up Show at Universal Studios Florida is temporarily closed for a reimagined experience. It will mix classic horror themes with modern surprises.
Maintenance and upgrades continue at Hogwarts Castle in Islands of Adventure. In 2027, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will open, inspired by the film franchise.
Visitor reactions to the closure are mixed. Some feel it’s overdue, noting previous closures. Others mourn the loss, sharing fond memories on social platforms.
