Stewart McLean, known for his role in Netflix’s “Virgin River,” was tragically found dead shortly after being reported missing. His disappearance has sparked a homicide investigation. Jeff Seymour, an acting coach and close friend, expressed profound concern the morning McLean vanished.
Seymour recounted to The Canadian Press that McLean’s absence was highly uncharacteristic. “He was meticulous about everything, and there would be no chance he blew it off or slept too late,” Seymour stated. “As soon as I heard he didn’t make it on Saturday morning, I knew there was big trouble.”
Seymour described McLean as someone loved by many, with no involvement in dubious activities. “Everybody loved this guy,” Seymour shared. “It wasn’t like he was in nefarious activities or ran with another crowd. I mean, he was a bit of a loner.”
McLean was officially reported missing on May 18, with the Squamish RCMP initiating a missing persons investigation the next day. His last known location was at home in Lions Bay on May 15. Days later, RCMP uncovered evidence indicating that McLean was the victim of homicide.
“Squamish RCMP initiated an investigation and through investigative efforts uncovered evidence that led investigators to believe Mr. McLean was the victim of a homicide,” the official statement revealed.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now taken over the case, working alongside the Squamish RCMP and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) to advance the investigation. McLean’s remains have since been found and identified.
Investigators are actively piecing together McLean’s last movements, analyzing evidence and CCTV footage, and conducting interviews to form a timeline of events leading to his death.
McLean’s acting career includes appearances in series such as “Arrow,” “Happy Face,” and “Murder in a Small Town,” alongside contributions as a producer on projects like “Travelers” and “Beyond.” His diverse roles have earned him recognition within the Canadian entertainment industry.
