Aaron Donald’s Uncertain Return to Los Angeles Rams

The return of Aaron Donald to the Los Angeles Rams remains uncertain. Coach Sean McVay has provided a hesitant outlook. Reports suggested that Donald, a 10-time Pro Bowl player and three-time Defensive Player of the Year, might return soon. But McVay indicated otherwise after the Rams’ first preseason game.

At a press conference, McVay was cautious about Donald’s return. He spoke about the issue, despite initially hesitating. He said, ‘We are not at that point quite yet.’ This follows reports that Donald might return when the Rams resumed training in Woodland Hills on Aug. 7. However, a report on Aug. 5 stated that Donald wants to ensure he maintains a high level of play before committing.

McVay acknowledged this, stating, ‘He earned the right to be able to say he knows himself.’ Donald has benchmarks for himself to meet before returning. McVay respects this approach and wants to give Donald the time he needs.

Donald, currently 35, hasn’t played since 2023. The Rams are keen for his return, but it’s not guaranteed. McVay hopes for a decision soon but prioritizes Donald’s readiness. He added, ‘I am hopeful that it will be sooner rather than later, but I also want to respect when he does feel that clarity will come.’
