US Central Command Chief’s Visit to the USS Lincoln
Admiral Brad Cooper, the top US military commander in the Middle East, visited the USS Lincoln in the Arabian Sea as part of a 10-day regional tour. The visit addressed concerns about mental health and supply issues on the long-deployed aircraft carrier. The USS Lincoln, in the region since January, supports US efforts against Iran, including blockades of Iranian ports. This deployment has been one of the most operationally intense, with over 240 continuous days at sea.
Admiral Cooper also visited Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE to meet with civilian and military leaders. The US Navy blockade responds to Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passageway for global oil and gas trade.
Israel Targets Hezbollah Commanders in Lebanon
Israel’s military targeted two Hezbollah commanders in Lebanon. These attacks, the deadliest since a June truce, resulted in at least 11 deaths. The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed these casualties.
“The second attack killed Abu Hassan Alaa, a senior Hezbollah commander involved in attacks against Israeli forces,” the Israeli army stated.
Israel’s earlier strike killed Ali Samir Al-Haj Hassan, another commander, emphasizing that his family was not the target. An agreement outlines plans for an Israeli withdrawal in exchange for Hezbollah’s disarmament. However, Hezbollah has refused direct talks and was not part of this US-mediated agreement.
Hamas Delegation in Cairo for Gaza Ceasefire Talks
A Hamas delegation, led by Khalil al-Hayya, attended Cairo talks aimed at a Gaza ceasefire. Al-Hayya met with Egyptian intelligence chief Major General Hassan Rashad. They discussed US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, which requires Hamas and other groups in Gaza to disarm and for Israeli forces to withdraw.
Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu rejected the latest US plan, citing security concerns. Discussions continue, although it remains unclear if Al-Hayya will engage with other key figures like Jared Kushner or Tony Blair.
Iran Accuses Qatar of Holding Pilots
Iran alleged that Qatar holds three of its pilots, missing since their aircraft were downed in March. Qatar denies these claims.
“Qatar found the remains of one pilot but denies detaining others,” stated a Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
This incident highlights regional tensions, with Iran often targeting nations housing US military bases.
