As the football season approaches, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer and quarterback LaNorris Sellers find themselves under intense scrutiny. Beamer’s position is considered tenuous after the team concluded the 2025 season with a 4-8 record. Meanwhile, Sellers is viewed as a contentious prospect for the 2027 NFL Draft, with his potential draft spot varying based on his performance.
Recently, South Carolina announced significant setbacks with injuries to two wide receivers. This development impacts both Sellers and Beamer’s prospects for the season. LaNorris’ brother, Jayden Sellers, along with fellow wide receiver Jayden Gibson, will miss the entire 2026 season due to injuries.
I am extremely disappointed for both of these young men,Beamer stated.I know how hard each of them has worked over the spring and summer in getting ready for 2026 to help our team. I have full confidence they will both overcome the adversity they’re facing, and we will help them in whatever way we can throughout the rehab process moving forward.
In 2025, during his debut season, Jayden Sellers had made 22 receptions accumulating 337 yards and one touchdown. His contribution became more significant towards the end of the season, with a standout performance against Coastal Carolina, where he recorded four catches for 127 yards and scored in the Gamecocks’ 51-7 victory. He also made a notable impact against Clemson with five receptions for 67 yards.
Jayden Gibson, originally from Apopka, Florida, is a senior measuring six feet five inches tall and weighing 205 pounds. He delivered 14 receptions for 375 yards and secured five touchdowns for Oklahoma in 2023, excelling in a game against BYU on November 18. Unfortunately, injuries sidelined him for the entire 2024 season, and he didn’t make any catches in 2025.
Despite these setbacks, South Carolina still boasts a promising group of players, including Nitro Tuggle, Mazeo Bennett Jr., and Nyck Harbor. Nonetheless, the absence of Jayden Sellers and Gibson will test the team’s depth as they progress through the season.
