President Donald Trump’s approval among millennials has decreased, according to the latest Economist/YouGov poll. The survey, conducted from August 14 to August 17, reveals that only 26% of individuals aged 30 to 44 approve of Trump’s performance. This is a drop from 29% the previous week, marking the fifth week of declining or stagnant approval from this demographic.
Overall, the poll shows Trump’s approval at 35%, with 61% disapproving. The survey involved 1,611 U.S. adults with a margin of error of 3.4%.
President Trump has signed the largest middle-class tax cuts in history, lowered prescription drug costs, sealed the border, decreased violent crime, and strengthened America’s energy sector, said White House Spokeswoman Olivia Wales in an email to Newsweek.
A White House official highlighted achievements such as a significant drop in violent crime in 2025, continuous zero migrant releases at the border, and a 3.1% decrease in prescription drug prices from the previous year, citing The Washington Post.
Why Millennial Votes Matter
Millennials, born between 1981 and 1996, form the largest living generation, surpassing baby boomers. Both Trump’s and Kamala Harris’s campaigns have targeted millennials through digital platforms as a vital strategy in the 2024 election cycle.
Key Poll Findings
The Economist/YouGov poll also highlights millennials’ disapproval in specific areas of Trump’s presidency. Among 18- to 29-year-olds, 30% approve of his job, while 67% disapprove. Those aged 30 to 44 show 26% approval and 70% disapproval. On foreign policy, 24% of the younger group approve, and 21% of millennials approve. For tariffs, approval is 25% and 19%, respectively.
Trump’s approval rating with millennials remains a critical measure as he nears the 2026 midterm elections, where his ratings are at some of their lowest points. YouGov reported an earlier approval rate of 33% with 62% disapproving, which is a record high disapproval rate. His current 35% approval rating shows a slight rise from earlier figures, yet challenges with younger voters continue.
An additional Echelon Insights poll indicates Trump’s overall approval at 40%, while disapproval is at 59%. Among 18- to 34-year-olds, approval stands at 28%, and disapproval at 72%. Those aged 35 to 49 show a 40% approval and 57% disapproval.
The Echelon Insights poll surveyed 1,002 registered voters from August 13 to August 17, with a 3.4% margin of error. A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted on similar dates shows an approval rating of 33% and disapproval at 64% with a 3% margin of error for the 1,166 surveyed adults.
