Rachel Dratch is experiencing a surge in her career. Her popular mystical podcast and a return to Broadway in The Rocky Horror Show have brought her a second Tony nomination.
Dratch, widely recognized for her eclectic roles, hosts a weekly podcast named Woo Woo. On the show, she delves into topics like ghosts, astral projection, and the supernatural. However, Dratch clarifies she does not have a psychic. “Sometimes, because I have the podcast, it leads me to talk about a lot of unusual things,” she explains, “but I’m not all about odd stuff.” Despite this, her 2012 memoir Girl Walks Into a Bar … does mention her prophetic dreams and an encounter with a channeler, who foresaw Dratch becoming a mother. Remarkably, this prediction came true when she had her son, Eli, in 2010.
Dratch is now 60 years old and continues to fulfill her aspirations. Her earlier dream of being in a Broadway comedy materialized when she starred in POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive. This role, like her current one in The Rocky Horror Show, earned her a Tony nomination. In March, she returned to the Broadway stage, portraying the Narrator in this revival at Studio 54. This success reflects her journey from her roots in stage work.
Dratch acknowledges that some were surprised by her return to theater. However, she reminds audiences, “that’s actually where I started out.”
