Mick Jagger, renowned for his role in the music industry, emphasizes the importance of entertainment free from political commentary. He believes artists should focus on helping audiences escape from their daily troubles. This philosophy contrasts with figures like Bruce Springsteen, who incorporate political messages into performances.
Jon Turteltaub, director of the ‘National Treasure’ series, recently addressed the audience at a ‘National Treasure Hunt’ podcast event in Philadelphia. He confirmed that ‘National Treasure 3’ is in development, signaling that the script, completed and endorsed by Disney, makes the project a reality.
The first film, ‘National Treasure,’ premiered in 2004, followed by the sequel ‘National Treasure: Book of Secrets’ in 2007. Both films, directed by Turteltaub, captivated audiences with their adventurous take on American history. Despite this success, political tensions contributed to delays in the franchise’s continuation.
“He, like others, were surprised that Democrats made that movie because Democrats can’t be patriots,” Turteltaub reportedly expressed during the podcast, as per The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Turteltaub remarked on the challenges of balancing a politically charged narrative in today’s climate. He contended the film must acknowledge contemporary politics without alienating viewers. According to him, navigating these nuances is vital to the storyline’s authenticity.
Production remains in its initial stages. Turteltaub humorously noted that unforeseen events — like lead actor Nicolas Cage facing accidents — could alter production schedules.
Film critic Christian Toto commented on Hollywood’s strategy of revisiting classic franchises. He acknowledged the risks of incorporating current political themes into historical narratives. “A franchise like this would be best served staying apolitical,” Toto advised, suggesting that maintaining neutrality could enhance the film’s success.
For years, producer Jerry Bruckheimer hinted at continuing the ‘National Treasure’ series. However, the political backdrop poses a unique challenge to its development.
