North Carolina Doctor Arrested for Alleged Road Rage Shooting

A doctor from North Carolina found himself in custody on August 22, following an alleged road rage incident where he reportedly opened fire on Interstate 77. Virginia State Police reported that Dr. Richard Thomas Arriviello, 61, from Charlotte, targeted a Jeep, injuring two sisters aged 12 and 20.
Arriviello, in his Mercedes-Benz, was heading north around 8:50 a.m. near the North Carolina-Virginia state line when the incident took place. According to police, he fired shots at the moving Jeep and hit both sisters in their legs.
The victims were airlifted to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening, as noted by the authorities.

Following the shooting, Arriviello fled the scene in his Mercedes-Benz. However, troopers managed to spot and stop the vehicle about 15 miles away, successfully taking him into custody.
The doctor now faces multiple felony charges. These include malicious shooting into an occupied vehicle, intending to cause bodily harm, and using a firearm while committing a felony. The New River Valley Regional Jail is currently holding Arriviello without bond, awaiting a court appearance on September 29.
Authorities have yet to disclose the circumstances that led to the incident or if a firearm was recovered from Arriviello’s vehicle. Meanwhile, the Jeep’s driver was also cited for reckless driving, though their identity remains undisclosed.
Dr. Arriviello has been licensed as an emergency medicine physician in North Carolina since 2010. His records show no public disciplinary actions against him. He also owns Family Urgent Care in Monroe. Fox News Digital reached out to his practice and the Virginia State Police for further comments.
