Jennifer Garner faced financial uncertainty after her divorce from Ben Affleck. During a podcast episode of “Aspire with Emma Grede,” Garner shared her initial fears about supporting herself and her children after her marriage ended. She realized she had stepped back in her career to focus on her family, questioning her future work opportunities.
“I panicked when I was first out of my marriage and realized I had taken such a step back in my work,” said Garner.
Her concerns included the unpredictability of roles available to her as she aged in an industry that does not always offer stable or lucrative opportunities. Garner emphasized the importance of finding a way to care for herself and her children.
Garner explained her inability to accept film roles that required long periods away due to her responsibilities in Los Angeles with her children. She expressed her love for location shooting but acknowledged it wasn’t feasible at that moment in her career.
Garner was grateful for balancing work and family life, appreciating the chance to be a present mother while occasionally working in her career. Despite the challenges, she viewed her situation positively.
After her divorce, Garner co-founded the organic children’s food company, Once Upon A Farm, in 2017. Her focus shifted to earning and managing financial responsibilities.
“It’s not like you can just unfamous yourself. Life is expensive, and you still have to figure out how you’re going to live,” she added.
Throughout her career, Garner has learned to embrace imperfection and kindness towards herself. She highlighted the reality of raising children in separate households and the need to embody both parental roles.
“When your kids grow up in two separate households, I become mom and dad, and he becomes dad and mom,” said Garner.
Jennifer Garner’s experience underscores the challenges of balancing work and parenting, while also adapting to financial responsibilities post-divorce.
