In Arkansas, women often face significant hurdles in accessing routine prenatal care. On August 30, 2026, a report highlighted this critical issue, stating that many women must travel an hour or more for prenatal appointments. This delay affects timely healthcare delivery and maternal well-being.
Arkansas has been recognized by Americans United for Life as the most pro-life state for six straight years. Despite this recognition, the state faces challenges that impact women’s and children’s health. According to the latest report from March of Dimes, 44 percent of Arkansas’ counties are categorized as maternity care deserts. This means 33 out of 75 counties have no hospitals or birth centers offering obstetric services and lack obstetric clinicians.
Addressing these gaps is essential for improving maternal health outcomes. Efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure can provide better services to expectant mothers, especially in remote areas.
