Sean Ono Lennon, the 50-year-old son of the late Beatles founder John Lennon, announced his fatherhood on Tuesday. This marks the first time his famous father would be a grandfather. Lennon shared the news on social media, stating, “Charlotte and I would like to announce that we have indeed created a Human Bean! His name is Aurelius! Thank you!” Aurelius means “golden” in Latin.
Lennon has been in a long-term relationship with Charlotte Kemp Muhl, a model and musician, for nearly two decades. Together, they perform as the band Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. Sean Lennon is the son of John Lennon’s second wife, Yoko Ono, who is now 93 years old. She was present with John when he was tragically killed by a former fan in December 1980 on the Upper West Side.
John Lennon had another son, Julian Lennon, aged 63, from his first marriage to Cynthia Lennon. Julian expressed in a 2011 interview with the Telegraph that his decision not to start a family stemmed from the example set by their rock star father, saying, “He was young and didn’t know what he was doing. That’s the reason I haven’t had children yet. I didn’t want to do the same thing.”
The newborn Aurelius is John’s only known grandson. Sean has proudly shared several photos of Aurelius on Instagram. Julian also shared images of his half-brother’s new son, accompanied by four red heart emojis as a caption. Celebrities like Bijou Phillips, director Jim Jarmusch, comedian Whitney Cummings, socialite Paris Hilton, and actor Lindsay Lohan congratulated Lennon and Muhl on their social media platforms.
