Exclusive Insight on U.S. Military Operations
The U.S. military recently provided insight into its border security operations, disclosing that it took down approximately 100 suspected cartel drones in August. A senior War Department official shared this information with Fox News, marking the first instance of the Pentagon revealing the regular use of counter-drone technology at the southern border. This technology includes advanced laser systems designed to prevent cartel drones from crossing into the U.S.
According to the official, Task Force–Southern Border executed these drone takedowns with specialized equipment, supplied and integrated by other military units. Each operation was meticulously planned and coordinated with the Mexican military and border authorities to avoid interference or unintended conflicts between forces on either side of the border.
Inside America’s Laser Revolution
The military has enhanced its patrols along the southern border following the Trump administration’s efforts to curb illegal migration. Army Sgt. Drew Scheffer, part of Joint Task Force Southern Border, was engaged in surveillance near Santa Teresa, N.M. as of April 12, as part of this deployment.
The operations are part of efforts to deploy rapid defenses against drone threats, integrating multiple technologies with personnel training and updated military authorities. The official clarified that the military employs a range of systems, rather than relying on a single solution.
The Pentagon confirmed to Fox News that counter-drone technology is being utilized to bolster security operations at the border. Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson stated, “The United States is employing defensive counter-drone technology to protect our personnel and border security operations from cartel-linked drone threats.” He emphasized the coordination with Mexican military and border authorities to ensure mutual safety and conflict resolution.
Continued Efforts Against Cartel Operations
This disclosure comes as the Trump administration persists in using military force against cartels across the Western Hemisphere, including lethal actions against drug traffickers.
Earlier this week, administration officials highlighted President Donald Trump’s military strategy during a press session, stating, “The president directed, the Department of War executed, the first ever plan to use direct military force to defend the homeland from this threat.” The strategy reportedly resulted in a significant reduction in U.S. casualties inflicted by cartels.
