A terrifying incident occurred on the Jersey Shore when a young child fell from a boardwalk ride, prompting quick action from her aunt. This event took place on Monday at Casino Pier’s Sky Ride in Seaside Heights, according to reports from the Asbury Park Press.
The 2-year-old girl fell at approximately 7:40 p.m. from the Sky Ride before it began moving, as reported by NJ.com. She landed near the edge of the boardwalk and sand.
A 3-year-old boy, who was also on the ride with them, remained seated as Casino Pier staff halted the ride immediately. Firefighters used a ladder to safely help the boy down.
The ride, which is located about 10 to 12 feet above the boardwalk surface, allowed the girl to fall onto an entrance platform and then onto the sand below, according to Asbury Park Press.
The girl was quickly assessed by EMS staff after her fall. She and her aunt were transported to the Community Medical Center in Toms River for evaluation.
Police officials have indicated that the ride appeared to be functioning correctly at the time, showing no signs of malfunction.
The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs is currently investigating the incident as part of its oversight of amusement ride inspections and licensing. At present, no ride defects have been identified.
The Sky Ride was built by Borvig and has been operating at Casino Pier since 1983, according to Coasterpedia.
This incident adds to a series of recent amusement park ride incidents across the nation. In Colorado, a woman reportedly suffered serious injuries after being ejected from a roller coaster while still strapped in her seat belt. Additionally, in Texas, riders were left suspended about 200 feet in the air when a ride at Six Flags was paused after a passenger took out a cellphone.
