Saudi Arabia is facing a critical situation with its oil exports following the closure of a key pipeline. The East-West oil pipeline was shut down as a precaution after drone attacks reportedly linked to Iranian-backed groups from Iraq. The closure comes amid growing tensions in the region.
The pipeline plays a vital role in transporting oil across the Arabian Peninsula. It channels approximately 4 million barrels per day to the Red Sea port of Yanbu. This route has been crucial since the shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz due to the conflict in Iran.
Energy industry sources, according to Reuters, suggest that repairs could take up to six weeks. The extended outage might impact about 4 percent of the global oil supply. Industry insiders have indicated that Yanbu’s export capacity could be maintained for only five to seven days without the pipeline.
As the situation develops, many are monitoring closely. Newsweek has reached out to the Saudi government for further information.
