Engaging in a hockey fight with a player towering at 7-foot-1 and weighing 280 pounds is daunting for most. However, Liam Lefebvre isn’t like most. In a striking display during the 2026 Rookie Faceoff, Lefebvre, a Los Angeles Kings prospect, faced off against San Jose Sharks prospect Alexander Karmanov.
This game saw a remarkable clash when Karmanov, the tallest player ever drafted into the NHL, collided with Kings defenseman Jakub Dvorak. The third period incident led to Dvorak’s injury, causing a skirmish on the ice.
Lefebvre, standing 6-foot-3, engaged Karmanov despite their notable size difference. The confrontation felt like a mismatch, yet Lefebvre rose to the challenge.
The altercation ended with Karmanov leveraging his reach, sending Lefebvre to the ice. The San Jose crowd erupted as Karmanov celebrated his effort. Drafted 201st overall by the Sharks, the Moldova-born defenseman made headlines with both his stature and skill.
Karmanov described the fight as a natural progression of the game. “I asked if he was ready, and we went for it,” Karmanov remarked to reporters.
This incident highlighted the dynamic nature of hockey and the unpredictable outcomes during such intense matchups.
